1. Welk besturingssysteem draait op de servers van One2Web?
Al onze servers gebuiken Solaris 7, het eerste 64-bits besturingssysteem van Sun Microsystems.
Solaris 7 is een uiterst stabiele en betrouwbare Unix-implementatie die ideaal is voor webhosting en zelfs onder de moeilijkste omstandigheden vlekkeloos blijft draaien. Vandaag de dag is Solaris de leidende Unix-omgeving wanneer het op beschikbaarheid, betrouwbaarheid, schaalbaarheid en veiligheid aankomt. Solaris werd van bij het begin ontworpen met het internet in het achterhoofd. TCP/IP, het centrale internet-protocol, zit al sinds meer dan 15 jaar vervat in de kern van het besturingssysteem. Door zijn ontwerp dat door de jaren heen werd getest - een kleine, stabiele kernel, modulaire en uitbreidbare componenten, en duidelijke interfaces - kan Solaris rotsvaste stabiliteit en betrouwbaarheid garanderen voor alle toepassingen die business-critical zijn.

2. Welke webserver-software wordt gebruikt?
One2Web gebruikt Apache 1.3.3 voor al zijn webservers, een versie van Apache die licht is aangepast om bepaalde extra diensten te kunnen aanbieden.
3. Welke MIME-types zijn er zoal gedefinieerd?

5. Wanneer worden er nieuwere versies van de huidige software geïmplementeerd?
Nieuwere versies van het besturingssysteem Solaris of van server- side scripting-talen zoals Perl, PHP, Miva of ColdFusion worden geïnstalleerd van zodra die volledig stabiel en compatibel zijn bevonden met de andere softwarepakketten die op onze servers zijn geïnstalleerd.
Vooraleer we bij One2Web het besturingssysteem of andere softwarecomponenten van de webservers updaten, wordt de nieuwe configuratie op een afzonderlijke server aan een reeks grondige tests onderworpen. Voornamelijk de stabiliteit, de veiligheid, de compatibiliteit en de correctie interactie met de tal van andere gebruiksmogelijkheden worden aandachtig en intensief onder de loep genomen.
Pas wanneer aan alle strenge normen is voldaan, wordt de nieuwe versie van de software geïnstalleerd op alle servers.
6. Waarom zijn de softwareversies op de servers van One2Web niet altijd de allerrecentste?
Het aanbieden van een uitgebreid gamma aan gebruiksmogelijkheden is uiteraard voordelig voor de klant, maar dit veroorzaakt echter een extra belasting bij het testen van de stabiliteit en de compatibiliteit met alle andere functies van uw account.
Bovendien heeft het gratis aanbieden van een aantal waardevolle applicaties van externe softwarebedrijven soms belangrijke implicaties bij het upgraden van andere softwarecomponenten waarvan die applicaties gebruik maken.
Het is niet ongebruikelijk dat er door onze stringente en uitgebreide testprocedures soms een versie wordt overgeslagen. Het valt ook voor dat de extra functionaliteit van nieuwere versies de moeite van het upgraden niet echt loont, of dat we bij One2Web aan een courante versie eigen aanpassingen aanbrengen die beter geschikt zijn voor onze concrete dienstverlening naar de klant toe dan de allernieuwste uitgave.
Bij One2Web verkiezen we beproefde stabiliteit, veiligheid en compatibiliteit boven een blindelingse wedren naar de allernieuwste versienummers, waarbij de verschillen met de courante uitvoeringen doorgaans niet echt spectaculair zijn.
Hoe dan ook zorgen we er voor dat u steeds kunt beschikken over alle mogelijkheden om een technisch geavanceerde website te bouwen op een account die de vergelijking met de concurrentie met glans kan doorstaan.
7. Worden er regelmatig veiligheidsupdates doorgevoerd bij de gebruikte software?
Uiteraard wordt steeds voorrang gegeven aan kritieke updates of veiligheidspatches van de gebruikte software om de stabiliteit en de integriteit van onze en uw gegevens an applicaties steeds te kunnen vrijwaren. Deze updates en patches, verstrekt door de fabrikanten, hebben steeds voorrang op alle andere installaties en upgrades.
